Margaret A. Cargill Foundation
Margaret A. Cargill loved the arts and was committed to seeing arts learning flourish in the classroom. Having been inspired by several teachers during her lifetime, she believed excellent teachers should be supported and rewarded for their impact on many individuals' lives. To honor these values, and to tap into the great potential arts learning has for community well-being on multiple levels, the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation (MACF) Arts Education program (ACAE) has chosen to focus on teachers as change agents and is committed to improving the development and recruitment of quality educators, both specialists and generalists, to teach the arts in K-12 public schools. The MACF Arts Education program seeks to support teacher professional development (TPD) in the arts so more quality educators who are confident and competent to teach the arts exist and remain in K-12 schools in Wisconsin and are supported effectively.
MACF believes that pre-service and new teachers who have the opportunity to deeply engage in meaningful arts learning and teaching experiences early in their development - whether specialists or generalists - will value arts education and become exemplary professionals who are competent and confident to teach the arts and practice arts integration in their classrooms.
